ABOUT ME

Claire Crispin, RMN, PGDip (CBT)

Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapist

My photo2.jpeg

I am a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and a Registered Mental Health Nurse working in both private practice and for the NHS in mental health services.

I offer online video therapy to clients in the UK and around the world (apart from those living in the United States and Canada).  Face to face therapy sessions are also available in the town of Hertford, Hertfordshire in the UK.

I’m experienced in assessing and treating a wide range of anxiety and mood disorders in adults and young people. These include, but are not limited to: Depression, Social Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), General Anxiety, Health Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Low Self Esteem, Panic Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Specific Phobias and Psychosis.

I am enthusiastic about supporting people to facilitate positive change  and I use a collaborative, compassionate and patient-guided approach to empower people to move beyond their current difficulties and achieve their goals.

My early career was in marketing, working for several multi-national, blue-chip organisations, where I developed a broad business acumen.  In order to maintain life-balance, I  regularly volunteered for charitable organisations including Mind and Crisis which is when, nearly 20 years ago, my passion for working with people facing mental health issues was first ignited.

Soon after, I followed my passion, returned to university, completed my nurse training and specialised in mental health.  I worked for many years as an NHS registered mental health nurse in acute inpatient psychiatric wards and in community teams followed by a period as Quality Improvement Lead for several mental health services in the local area. In 2017 I returned to University and studied for a Post Grad in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and now work as a CBT psychotherapist.

Having enjoyed a career which spans the Public, Private and Independent sectors, I have gained a unique perspective and first-hand experience of individual and organisational challenges in obtaining and maintaining good mental health and effective solutions to this.

At the weekends you can find me on long dog walks and cheering on the side lines both as a football and a rugby mum watching my children play!

My Academic qualifications; DipHE MHN, PGdip CBT.  PGCert Chartered institute of Marketing.  NHS Leadership Academy.  MBABCP:  Accredited Member. I am Enhanced DBS checked and can share the certificate with you.

FEEDBACK I’VE RECEIVED

Patient Experiences

"I feel so lucky to have had Claire guiding me through our therapy sessions. She has an incredible way of making you feel listened to and comforted, but equally giving you the push you need to make the changes required to achieve your goals"

Emily

"Claire really helped me to understand the context of my OCD and the symptoms I was experiencing. She really helped me to challenge my intrusive thoughts and I no longer allow them to affect my daily life like they did before. Thank you for helping me to feel more confident."

EL

"Having suffered from health anxiety, Claire provided me with a science-led methodology that helped me understand the problems and introduced techniques that have provided me with a much healthier and happier state of mind"

WHAT IS CBT?

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), is a short term, goal oriented talking therapy based on the theory that thoughts, feelings, what we do and how our body feels are all connected. If we change one of these we can alter the others.

When people feel worried or distressed we often fall into unhelpful patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel and lead to depression and anxiety. CBT works to help us notice and change problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so we can feel better and move Beyond our current difficulties. It is a practical therapy which offers many strategies that can help you in the here and now.

CBT is backed by a large evidence base demonstrating its effectiveness in treating a wide range of mental health problems in adults, older adults, children and young people.  CBT is recommended by  the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE),  for the treatment of many mood and anxiety disorders.
